- Best buy: Earth Long Range RWD — from €50,525 on Kia Ireland's list (SEAI + VRT relief reflected), heat pump standard, ~450–480 km real-world, V2L, 7-year warranty.
- Step up if kit matters: GT-Line Long Range from €55,000 — sunroof, 360° cameras, GT styling; confirm VRT taper on the OMV.
- Choose EV6 over EV3 when you want faster DC charging, more boot / tow capacity, or a sharper drive — not when you want the cheapest Kia EV.
- Choose Model Y / ID.4 instead for max boot + Superchargers (Y) or lowest mid-size price + VW dealers everywhere (ID.4).
- Used trap: 2022–2024 cars — no deposit without VIN proof the ICCU recall remedy is done.

Why it sells in Ireland
- 800V fast-charge hero in the mid-size class — ~18 min 10–80% when you can find a true high-power CCS post (Ionity / high-power Applegreen peers)
- Heat pump standard on Irish Earth / GT-line S — removes the EV3 “only on top trim” winter trap
- Kia's industry-leading 7-year / 150,000 km warranty — transferable with complete service history
- Sharper, lower-slung drive than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 sister car and the more conventional VW ID.4
- V2L standard — 3.5 kW external power for campsites, tools or power-cut backup
- Strong towing story for an EV — facelift up to 1,800 kg braked (ahead of ID.4 1,200 kg; matches / beats many rivals)
- Mature E-GMP fleet data shared with Ioniq 5 / EV9 — more real-world reliability signal than brand-new platforms
- Honest positioning: not Ireland's volume EV (ID.4, Model 3, EV3, Model Y lead SIMI) — it is the road-trip / driver's alternative
SEAI grants + VRT relief
- SEAI EV Purchase Grant: up to €3,500 for new BEVs under €60,000 OMV — Kia dealers typically pre-apply this at point of sale
- VRT Relief: up to €5,000 reduction in Vehicle Registration Tax — full below €40k OMSP, tapers €40–50k, nil above €50k. Earth usually keeps more relief than GT-Line
- SEAI Home Charger Grant: up to €600 for installing a home wallbox (confirm current SEAI.ie figure at purchase)
- Lower BIK rate: Category A1 (6–15%) plus the ~€30,000 OMV reduction in 2026 (€10k universal + €20k EV-specific)
- Lower motor tax: €120/year flat BEV rate
- LEVTI tolls: 75% off M50, 50% off other tolls — meaningful for Dublin commuters
- Published Kia Ireland prices: Earth €50,525 · GT-Line €55,000 — treat these as incentive-aware retail, then verify the OMV line on your quote

Awards + credibility
The original EV6 arrived with a strong early-2020s awards run (including World Car Design recognition in its launch cycle) and a full Euro NCAP 5-starscore. The 2025–2026 story is less about a fresh trophy haul and more about the facelift engineering: larger 84 kWh pack, higher peak charge power, better towing, and a cleaned-up ownership story after the early ICCU campaigns.
- Euro NCAP 5 stars — strong active-safety kit from Earth up
- E-GMP credibility — shared platform with Ioniq 5 / Ioniq 6 / EV9 with multi-year fleet data
- Contrast with EV3: the EV3 owns the 2025 World Car + 2026 What Car? small-SUV halo; the EV6 owns the mid-size fast-charge / driver's brief
Did you know? — insider facts
On a true high-power CCS post, the EV6's 800V architecture can do 10–80% in about 18 minutes — roughly half the coffee-stop of a VW ID.4 Pro at ~175 kW. The catch: many Irish ESB posts are still 50 kW, where the advantage shrinks. Filter apps for 150 kW+ on Dublin–Cork / M7 runs if you bought the EV6 for charging speed.
Irish Earth and GT-line S specification lists the heat pump as standard kit. That is a genuine ownership win versus the Kia EV3, where the heat pump is locked to GT-Line S. Winter range loss typically closes from the mid-20s / 30% band toward roughly 15–20% with the pump working.
Same E-GMP bones, very different vibe. The Ioniq 5 is the roomier, squarer living-room on wheels; the EV6 is lower, sportier and a bit tighter in the rear. Boot is close; cabin ambience is not. If you are cross-shopping, test-drive both back-to-back — most buyers decide in ten minutes on shape alone.
Vehicle-to-Load is standard: plug an adapter into the charge port and run ~3.5 kW of external loads — kettle, tools, e-bike chargers, or emergency home circuits in a short power cut. The ID.4 does not offer this; it is a quiet EV6 / Ioniq 5 advantage that rarely shows up in brochure headlines.
Kia Ireland quotes up to 1,800 kgbraked towing on the facelift Long Range — ahead of the VW ID.4 (1,200 kg) and competitive with the Tesla Model Y (1,600 kg). Always confirm the figure on the Certificate of Conformity for the exact trim you order; trailer electrics / hitch packages still matter.
2022–2024 EV6s (and sister E-GMP cars) were recalled because the Integrated Charging Control Unit can stop charging the 12V battery, leading to warnings and possible loss of drive if ignored. Remedy = inspect / replace ICCU + fuse + software. Facelift cars are in a better place, but every used purchase still needs a VIN recall printout before money moves.
The drivetrain choice
Earth Long Range RWD — the sweet spot
- 84 kWh facelift battery; RWD; heat pump standard
- Up to 582 km WLTP · ~450–480 km real-world mixed
- 800V DC fast charging · V2L · 19" wheels
- From €50,525 on Kia Ireland's published list
- Recommended for most private and BIK buyers
GT-Line Long Range — the kit step
- Same core Long Range battery story with GT styling
- 20" wheels, sunroof, 360° cameras, higher ADAS on the Irish GT-Line row
- From €55,000 — run the gap versus Earth carefully
- AWD dual-motor variants exist on the platform; confirm current Irish stock before you assume AWD
Used 77.4 kWh — the value play
- 2022–2024 Earth cars often €28k–€39k depending on miles
- Still a fast-charging E-GMP car — if ICCU remedy + battery health check out
- Expect slightly less range than a new 84 kWh facelift
Skip for most buyers: EV6 GT performance — thrilling, expensive, shorter range, and usually the wrong answer if you came for family TCO or SEAI maths.
Charging in Ireland
- Public DC: ESB ecars, EZO, Ionity, Applegreen, Circle K, Tesla Supercharger (CCS / access rules as of 2026) — EV6 shines on 150–350 kW posts
- Home AC: 11 kW 3-phase wallbox (~8 h); many Irish homes are single-phase 7 kW (~11–13 h) — still fine overnight
- SEAI Home Charger Grant: up to €600 — see our EV Home Charging guide
- V2L standard: 3.5 kW external power via adapter
- Route reality at ~450 km real-world: Dublin→Cork / Galway / Kerry one-way is comfortable; Cork return usually needs one rapid
- See our EV Public Charging Networks guide for the full Irish map
Irish trim breakdown
| Trim | Battery | Published from | Headline kit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Earth Long Range (sweet spot) | 84 kWh | €50,525 | 19" alloys, vegan leather, heat pump, dual 12.3" curved displays, FCA 1.5, BCA, OTA, CarPlay / Android Auto, V2L, heated seats / wheel |
| GT-Line Long Range | 84 kWh | €55,000 | 20" alloys, GT styling, glass sunroof, 360° SVM, BVM, adaptive headlights, higher ADAS (FCA 2.0 / HDA2), premium audio / HUD on higher S rows |
Earth Long Range is the rational Irish buy. GT-Line is justified when you will use the cameras, sunroof and design every week — not when you only want a badge.
Heat pump — standard for Irish winter
Unlike the EV3, you do not need to climb to a top trim just to get a heat pump on a current Irish-spec EV6. That is one of the strongest ownership arguments for Earth over cross-shopping a heat-pump-optional rival.
- Without a heat pump, cold sub-5°C days can cut range 25–30%+
- With the pump, winter loss more typically sits around 15–20% in Irish conditions
- On used cars, still verify the equipment list — grey imports can differ
- Battery heating system is also listed standard on the Irish Earth / GT-line S sheet — helps cold DC charge behaviour
Real running costs — annual (Earth Long Range, 20,000 km / year)
| Item | Earth Long Range | GT-Line Long Range |
|---|---|---|
| Home electricity (85% charging, €0.12/kWh night) | ~€380–€420 | ~€400–€440 |
| Public DC charging (15%) | ~€150–€180 | ~€160–€190 |
| Motor tax | €120 | €120 |
| Insurance | €800–€1,400 | €900–€1,550 |
| Service (Kia dealer) | €280–€400 | €300–€420 |
| Depreciation (year 1, est.) | ~€4,500–€5,500 | ~€5,500–€6,500 |
| Annual total (excl. finance) | ~€6,200–€7,200 | ~€7,000–€8,200 |
Home night-rate charging is what makes the EV6 maths work. If you rely mostly on 50–67 c/kWh public DC, a large slice of the saving versus a petrol Tucson / Sportage disappears — same honesty we apply on the ID.4 and Model Y pages.
5-year ownership cost projection
| Item | Earth Long Range | GT-Line Long Range |
|---|---|---|
| Electricity (5 yr) | ~€2,700 | ~€2,900 |
| Motor tax (5 yr) | €600 | €600 |
| Insurance (5 yr) | ~€5,500 | ~€6,200 |
| Servicing (5 yr) | ~€1,700 | ~€1,850 |
| Depreciation | ~€22,000–€24,000 | ~€25,000–€28,000 |
| Tyres + consumables | ~€1,000 | ~€1,200 |
| 5-year total cost | ~€33,500–€36,000 | ~€37,500–€41,000 |
| Cost per km (100,000 km) | ~€0.34–€0.36 | ~€0.38–€0.41 |
Higher than the EV3 Long Range(~€27k / ~€0.27/km) — correctly so: the EV6 is a larger, pricier car. Rough peer check from our other Irish reviews: Model Y~€31k five-year ownership band and ID.4 Pro~€29k — the EV6 sits a little dearer to run as an ownership package, paid back in charge speed and driving feel rather than pure TCO.
Depreciation + resale retention
| Variant | 1-year retention (est.) | 3-year retention (est.) | 5-year retention (est.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Earth Long Range (new facelift) | ~82–86% | ~62–68% | ~50–55% |
| GT-Line Long Range | ~80–84% | ~58–65% | ~48–53% |
| Used 2022–23 Earth (today's market) | Live DoneDeal: often €28k–€39k depending on miles — already through the steepest drop | ||
The transferable 7-year warranty still props up residuals. Facelift 84 kWh cars should hold a premium over early 77.4 kWh stock once buyers learn to read battery size on ads. ICCU-remedied late 2023–2024 cars are the smart used play; undocumented early cars will keep trading soft.
Common Irish issues
- ICCU / 12V charging failure on 2022–2024 — recall remedy is mandatory homework on used cars
- Firm ride on 20" GT-Line wheels — Earth 19" is the comfort choice on broken Irish secondary roads
- Coupe roof line: rear headroom / ease of entry trails the squarer Ioniq 5, especially with a sunroof
- ADAS / intelligent speed-limit assist can feel naggy — learn the menus on the test drive
- Headline 260 kW DC is a peak, not a constant — real curve taper is normal
- Early build quality anecdotes (panel gaps / trim squeaks) are less common on later cars but still inspect used examples carefully
NCT pitfalls (model-specific)
- Generally strong expected pass rates consistent with Kia's broader Irish record
- Tyre wear on a ~2-tonne EV — rotate about every 10,000 km; watch inner shoulders on alignment-sensitive cars
- 20" GT-Line sidewalls — more pothole risk; check for bulges before NCT
- Headlight aim after kerb strikes — cheap fix, common fail
- 12V auxiliary battery — warning-light cascades by year 4–5; tied to the ICCU story on early cars
- OBD pre-test scan recommended (Phase 2 — warning light = automatic fail)
- See our How to Read Your NCT Report guide
Side-by-side competition (August 2026)
| Model | From / effective | WLTP / real | DC peak | Boot | V2L |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kia EV6 Earth LR | €50,525 pub. | 582 / ~460 | ~260 kW / ~18 min | 520 L + 52 frunk | Yes |
| Tesla Model Y Standard | ~€34,490 eff. | 534 / ~380 | 175 kW + Superchargers | 854 L + 117 frunk | No |
| VW ID.4 Pro | ~€36,030 eff. | ~572 / ~445 | ~175 kW | 543 L | No |
| Hyundai Ioniq 5 LR | ~€47–52k band | ~similar 800V class | ~18 min 800V | ~527 L | Yes |
| Kia EV3 Long Range Air | ~€37,000 eff. | 605 / ~480 | 128 kW / ~31 min | 460 L | Yes |
EV6's honest place: the charging-speed and driver's pick in Ireland's mid-size EV set. Loses to the Model Y on cargo and network simplicity, loses to the ID.4 on purchase price and ubiquity, and loses to the EV3 on wallet maths — wins when 800V stops, standard heat pump, V2L and a more engaging drive are the brief.
Best version to buy
- Best buy for most: new Earth Long Range RWD — heat pump standard, strongest grant / VRT story in the live IE range, calmer 19" ride
- Best for kit / presence: GT-Line Long Range if sunroof + 360° cameras are must-haves and you accept the €4.5k step
- Best used bargain: 2023–2024 Earth with documented ICCU remedy, battery SoH printout and warranty time left
- Avoid: unremedied early cars; GT performance as a “family EV”; paying GT-Line money only for badges
- Cross-shop before you commit: Model Y (boot), ID.4 (price / dealers), Ioniq 5 (cabin), EV3 (budget)
Used buyer's checklist
- VIN recall check (ICCU / 12V) — Kia dealer stamp or portal proof before deposit
- Battery State of Health — Kia dealer printout; aim 90%+ under ~80–100k km
- Confirm battery size — 77.4 kWh vs facelift 84.0 kWh
- Heat pump present — should be on IE-spec; verify on the equipment list
- Warranty months / km remaining — 7-year / 150,000 km transferable with service history
- Full Kia dealer service record + current software level
- Live DC charge test on viewing — watch for faults / limp warnings
- Tyre date codes + alignment (heavy EV inner-shoulder wear)
- NCT VIR + OBD clear — see our NCT Report Explained guide
- Water ingress / boot floor; panoramic roof drains if fitted

The honest verdict
The facelift Kia EV6 is the Irish mid-size EV to shortlist when charging speed, a standard heat pump, V2L and a more engaging drive matter more than Model Y cargo space or ID.4 bargain pricing. Earth Long Range is the rational new buy: incentive-aware from €50,525, properly equipped for Irish winters, and backed by Kia's transferable 7-year warranty.
It is not Ireland's volume EV — and it does not need to be. Treat it as the thoughtful road-trip alternative to the bestsellers we already cover. On the used market the same car can be excellent value or a liability: the difference is almost always ICCU paperwork and battery health.
