The story
Every Irish driver manages their car the same way: a mix of paper letters, dashboard stickers, half-remembered dates and the occasional jolt of panic when something almost slips through. NCT. Motor tax. Insurance renewal. Oil change. Timing belt. Tyres. None of it joins up — and all of it is expensive when missed.
The systems that are meant to help don't talk to each other. The NCT letter gets buried under bills. The tax reminder arrives with a PIN you can't find. The insurance renewal auto-renews at a higher price because you didn't shop around in time. Meanwhile the average car in Ireland now costs north of €10,000 a year to run — and most owners couldn't tell you where half of it went.
odo.ie was built to close that gap. There is no active Irish-specific consumer vehicle app — the nearest prior attempt is long defunct, and the international apps assume miles, gallons and a foreign inspection regime. odo.ie is built for Ireland from the ground up: correct NCT intervals, Irish tax cycles, euros and kilometres, and reminders that arrive at the right time. The basics — service tracking, reminders, fuel logging, cost analytics — are free, and the founders have committed to keeping them that way.

Dirk Laudon is the founder of odo.ie and owner of Sprout Media Limited, the Dublin company behind it. He built odo.ie after finding that no app handled the realities of Irish car ownership — the NCT, motor tax and insurance cycle in euros and kilometres — without a subscription or a plug-in dongle. He is available for interview and comment on Irish motoring, the cost of car ownership, the NCT, and the shift to electric vehicles.
